Is an implant right for you?

A permanent answer to missing teeth.

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Once it fuses with the bone, it anchors a custom crown, bridge or denture that stays put when you eat, talk and laugh. Unlike a traditional bridge, it does not require grinding down healthy neighboring teeth, and it helps keep the jawbone from shrinking after a tooth is lost.

Implants may be a good fit if you:

  • Are missing one tooth or several teeth
  • Have a tooth that is cracked, failing or needs to be removed
  • Wear a denture that slips, rubs or makes eating hard
  • Have a bridge that has failed or needs replacing
  • Want a fixed option you never take out at night

Not enough bone? Many patients who were told they could not get implants are candidates after a bone graft. If a tooth needs to come out first, we handle the extraction here too.

Why patients choose Dr. Patel

An implant-trained McKinney dentist who explains every step.

Implant success starts with planning. Dr. Patel maps the exact position, angle and depth of each implant on a 3D CBCT scan before treatment begins, so placement is precise and predictable.

She is one of a small number of general dentists who have earned Associate Fellowship with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, which requires advanced coursework, documented implant cases and a written exam. You get specialist-level implant care in the same office where you get your cleanings.  Dr. Patel places your implant herself, right here in our office, so there is no referral to an outside surgeon and no second office to visit.

That is why implant patients from Frisco, Prosper and Celina choose to make the drive: one experienced doctor plans, places and restores your implant, with 3D imaging, sedation options and evening and Saturday hours all in one office.

Nervous about surgery? You're not alone.

Implant placement is done with the area fully numbed, and most patients tell us it was easier than having a tooth pulled. If you feel anxious, have a strong gag reflex or are having several implants placed, ask about our sedation options.

We explain each step before we start, check in throughout and send you home with clear aftercare instructions and a direct line to our team.

Questions

Dental implant FAQs for McKinney patients.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Most adults who are missing one or more teeth can get implants. You need healthy gums and enough jawbone to support the implant, and if bone has thinned we can often rebuild it with a bone graft. Smokers and patients with uncontrolled diabetes can still be candidates but need extra planning. A consultation with a 3D CBCT scan is the only way to know for sure.

Do dental implants hurt?

The area is fully numbed during placement, and most patients say it was easier than they expected. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is normal and is usually managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Sedation is available if you feel anxious.

How long does the dental implant process take?

Most cases take about 3 to 6 months from placement to final crown, because the implant needs time to fuse with the jawbone. If you need a bone graft or extraction first, add a few months. You will not be left without a tooth in a visible area; a temporary is placed while you heal.

How much do dental implants cost in McKinney?

Cost depends on how many teeth are being replaced, the type of restoration, and whether you need extractions or grafting. You will receive a written treatment plan with exact pricing before anything begins. We verify insurance benefits for you and offer financing through CareCredit and Cherry.

Does dental insurance cover implants?

Many PPO plans cover part of the implant crown or related procedures such as extractions and grafts. Coverage varies widely, so our team checks your benefits before treatment and shows you your out-of-pocket cost up front.

How long do dental implants last?

The implant itself is designed to last for decades and often for life with good home care and regular checkups. The crown on top may need replacing after 10 to 15 years from normal wear.
